Graphics and woodworking II

For your enjoyment, chapter and sub-chapter illustrations by Captain John A. Bogart from Woodworking for Everybody by Shea and Wenger  (Copyright 1944 International Textbook Company).

John's illos- while remarkably faithful to the details of tools and processes- offered up a sly sense of humor and a solid dose of DIY optimism during the war years. They speak to a time when perseverance and creativity won out in the face of worldwide anxiety and daunting shortages of material goods.

We could use a laugh about now ourselves... more on this classic industrial arts text in a future post, but for now, scroll and enjoy!
