Playful Plans is an extension of Kevin McGuire's forty-year career as a woodworker and authoring four popular project title for kids and their caregivers. He designs innovative vintage-inspired playthings for young people.

As a long-time collector his business restoring vintage wooden toys has helped to build relationships with important collectors and significant collections across the country.

Anne McGuire is a child development professional with thirty year's experience as a therapist working with young people with autism. Following her  retirement from the Western North Carolina regional autism clinic/UNC-Chapel Hill School of Medicine in 2016, she currently consults to autism programs across the South.

Kevin and Anne have been married for twenty-nine years. Their daughter graduated from College of Charleston, teaches in a public school special needs classroom in South Carolina and is working on her Masters degree.

The Playful Plans Blog features commentary on the history, fabrication and cultural context of wooden playthings past and present.

When not in the workshop Kevin can be found tending his vegetable garden, flyfishing the mountain streams or seeking additions to his vintage wooden toys collection.

His books have been recognized by reviewers, educators, and craftsmen and are currently included in over one thousand library collections in the United States and in many international collections from Iceland to South Africa to Australia.
